Overview
The 'Medi-Scan' mobile application is a design I developed to help protect people with invisible illnesses on an international scale. Teamed with my application, I designed a number of scannable emblems that were placed on necklaces. These scannable emblems can be personalised with a choice of colours and were designed around replacing the current SOS / medical talismans which wearers describe as 'branding' and as a result are not worn by a great number of people.
The 'Medi-Scan' application would be automatically downloaded on all apple mobile devices with a quick access ability on the lock screen similar to that of the camera function. Swiping or tapping the icon will open the application onto the scanning page, which is used to scan the individuals scannable emblem. Scanning their emblem will take the user to the individuals personalised medical profile which they can edit them selves, updating any information that may change, such as their medication. This information appears on the 'Medical ID' page.
Other pages include: 'Keypad' a quick access page to a phone pad if an ambulance needs to be called, 'Scan' the page which allows for everyones scannable emblems to be scanned and bring up the individuals medical profile / ID, 'Location' which is a map page, allowing for the user to gain an exact location to give to the ambulance crew, as well as a nearest hospital marker. Finally the 'Support' page which is a page that allows the individual to gain mobile help incase there are any problems and also to interact on a social level.
Quick Access & Scanning Features
The quick access feature is achievable through a lock screen access. Similar to the quick access that iPhones have to their cameras and Android phones have to their key pad, by swiping or tapping the 'Medi-Scan' app on the lock screen of any iPhone will automatically open the application (even when the mobile phone is locked). The application automatically opens the 'Scan' page, where the user can scan the individuals medi-scan talisman (inform of a necklace or bracelet), which when scanned will open the individuals medical ID (profile). This quick access feature makes acting in emergencies quicker and more efficient which can be vital when time is of the essence and could potentially save lives.
Medical ID Pages
The medical profile page is Brough up after the individuals mede-scan (SOS) talisman talisman is scanned. The individuals page contains information including: Name / Age / Medical Condition(s) / Medication(s) / Allergies & Reactions / Please call and Other Details. The information on this page can be edited by the individual at any stage, incase their medication should change for example. This detailed information is personally added by the individual and  includes an image of themselves and also their own unique & personal mede-scan emblem which is on their mede-scan talisman, these visual aids are present to confirm that the user(s) are treating the right person, incase there are problems with the application or the individual has forgotten their mede-scan talisman(s), they are also given medi-scan ID cards, which contain a substantial amount of information and also contains their mede-scan scannable emblem which can also be scanned to bring up the individuals medical ID (profile).
Keypad / Location / Support Features
These pages are included in my application design to speed up the help process with a keypad page clearly laid out to make dialling for an ambulance quick and easy, as it saves having to switch between applications on the users mobile phone device, as well as cancels any unnecessary elements such as the letters on the keypads which you find on regular phone keypads.
The locations page is designed to give the user an exact location of where they are (where the incident has taken place) which can be passed on to the ambulance staff or any other party that needs to be contacted to speed up the help process even further, as well as stating the nearest hospital in relation to the users position, which can be used when there is no mobile phone signal and would have to travel by foot or drive to for example. The support page has been designed to be used when the user is having trouble with the application and needs help, as well as giving opportunities for the individual to get involved socially as well as the option to edit their account when ever they want.
Additional Features
The translate feature allows people from different countries  who speak different languages to understand the life saving information on the individuals account. This aspect is a reassuring feature for anyone who is planning to go on holiday to a foreign country, knowing that their information can be safely translated into the language of what ever country they want to visit.
The quick call feature allows the individual to attach any contacts that they wish to be contacted in case of an emergency. The quick call option save valuable time in emergency situations and can be updated by the user at any stage in case they need to change a mobile number or wish to add any other contacts to this page.
Medical ID Cards
The Medi-Scan medical ID cards have been designed in addition to my mobile application, incase the application does not work for what ever reason, to ensure the safety of the individuals if an emergency should arrive. The medical cards contain images of the individuals as well as their scannable emblem which takes up onside of the card, which can be scanned to take the user to the individuals medical ID page.
Medi-Scan Talismans
These are examples of my newly designed SOS necklace talismans, which have one side reading 'SOS Talisman' and the opposite side reading 'Medi-Scan' with the individuals unique scannable emblem engraved and coloured. The individual would be able to chose their own colour to make the talismans more personal and meaningful to them.
